A cafe with great coffee. Definitely can be considered the same thing but perhaps a cafe has more food to offer such as sandwiches.

I consider a coffee shop a place that sells many different coffees, lattes, cap. etc. and desserts where as a cafe would sell maybe a few more items such as a light lunch of sandwiches, soups, salads, fruit, and yogurt, etc. They also usually carry things light flavored teas and smoothies. A cafe may also sell a ligth breakfast too. Cafes sometimes do not sell as many desserts as a coffee shop does, that is a down fall. They may also serve supper but it is usually just the lunch menu still.
A perfect mix of a place that sells coffees, a lot of dessert choices, and light lunches and breakfast would be awesome.
But overall I prefer a cafe like Panera or St. Louis Bread Company. They are pretty awesome! They have a little of everything. If you have not heard of them they have a website, just look up Panera.
