You have 2 choices.....
1) Be honest and take it to the bank.. say you have been told it's a fake and you want to make sure
2) Try to spend it elsewhere...somewhere where they are less likely to know whether it's a fake
Depends whether that £10 is that important to you or whether you would rather be honest.... I think I would try to spend it elsewhere

Use it in a vending machine to get change or in a car park meter - something that takes notes.

Take it to bank they will verify if OK or not You will probably be £10 out of pocket.

We had a shop with an infra red money detector. If we refused to take any notes which showed as suspect they used to take them to the post office next door. The postmaster told me that he gets paid to accept them, yet the bank will take them from you and you lose the value of the note.
Whether he just wings it because of the amount he handles therefore lessening the chance of detection, I don`t know.
