It means if you have seen a advertisement in a mag or paper and it has a code in a box, you can use that number to get a discount on that product. Kinda like a food coupon when you go to a grocery, 10c off toilet paper.

It's like an Internet coupon, you enter the code in the appropriate spot, it's usually a combination of numbers and/or letters, and get a discount or savings on the purchase or shipping.

When purchasing a computer you see the following"
enter promotional code "yahoo342" to receive 15% off your laptop.
So when you were checking out you would see a box to enter a promo code - you would enter yahoo342 and would receive a discount.
If you had one you would know. So if you don't then just don't put anything in the promo code box.
