Well, judging by my results after googling 'Clacton', I'm first going to guess that you live in the UK? And Clacton in Essex is where you live?
OK, not being familiar with Clacton (although I now know where it is), I'm going out on a limb here, & wondering, was there a problem getting some things there last year? Maybe that's why everyone is buying early, to be sure they get what they want? Do the merchants there always put their stuff out this time of year (they do it even earlier here in the US, but I haven't seen people shopping like mad yet)? Are more people employed there this year than last year? Maybe the whole area is trying to get a jumpstart on Christmas this year - maybe you should, too! (j/k on that one!)

Hunni I was in town shopping in Liverpool on Saturday afternoon - my God you'd swear it was Christmas eve!!! lol
Although I was getting rather hypo myself as every thing I typed in in the Argos was ' sorry out of stock ' - bloody hell, the favourite Crimbo toys have already gone!!
Note to self - start earlier next year!!

People in Clacton are just mad. Christmas shopping has nothing to do with it.
