try telling your missus to save money on meal etc by going on a slighty different date , try 16th instead of 14th , its so much cheaper . I told my wife that it would be much better if i went on the 16th instead , funnily enough she agrees. its stupid way of making money .

I agree - me and my man don't bother - a little card of course but nothing more. I would feel like I was being ripped off if I was sat in a restuarant elbow to elbow with the couple next to me - having my desert served up in a heart shapped plate - yuk!!. Save your money - my would never go on at my boyfriend to buy me chocs and flowers - it's embarrasing.

I sort of feel that way too, and I am female. Too much hype over any holiday, or special day if you ask me. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to keep up with the Jones' . We are spending ourselves into the poorhouse.

I completely agree, although I do feel that it is the same for women too. Its so commercial these days, everyone ups the prices, the shop are full of worthless teddy bear tat that nobody actually wants.

My boyfriend and I are not doing anything at all. We don't need a day to tell us that we love each other.

I agree with you entirely . Valentine's day must have been hijacked by marketers to make money out of hapless lovers. What is the lesson behind Valentine's day any way.

I agree with you. If a person really loves someone, they do their best to make every day feel like Valentine's Day. I would be embarrassed if my man succumbed to the hype just because he felt like he had to. He buys me flowers and and he wines & dines me enough the rest of the year. He also shows me he loves me by the countless ways he shows his thoughtfulness. (For that matter, I treat him pretty special all year long, too!)

A lot of people really believe that all those Valentines expectations are important, though. I'm not sure you'll change her mind easily if she really buys into it. She'll just think you're cheap, and will be embarrassed when her friends ask her what you bought her for Valentine's day.

I've always found it amazing how so many people, when faced with some silly tradition like this, buy into it without question as if it is one of Life's Great Truths, or something!

I hate the commercialism and do only what I want, rather than what the adverts say ought to be done.
It is the silly masses that help this commercial type of holiday keep going. Resistance is done one person and couple at a time.
I do like the holiday, but there is no reason to buy more than one can afford or wants to.
I certainly think eating out is a horrid joke, other than an excuse for someone to not cook.
Better to have a no cook night when every git and his brother is spending a month's worth of pocket money on a single meal, and looking happy about it.
