I was wondering if there is any rules regarding shopping in trollies. It may sound a bit daft, but I was thinking of this scenario:
You are in a supermarket and there is no bread left. You later see a trolley at an aisle, that shopper has about 10 loaves in it. The shopper has left it unsupervised while choosing something else.
Is it OK to take a loaf out of her trolley for yourself (she looks like she is panic buying or something).
After all, she has not paid for it yet, so not really her property yet.
Or would it be best to try to reason with 10 loaf of bread shopper?

Unusual question but I'm sure has crossed most peoples' minds some time or other.
Personally I would accept that I'm going home without any bread. I would feel that it be rude and intrusive to stick my hand in someone elses trolley.
Would you stick your hand in someone elses bag? That's how I see it.

Yep take the bread! the person with the 10 loaves obviously has a reason for 10 loafs, probably staving children, but then they should protect there loaves if they are that important...

This is a very thought provoking question. Well, if they haven't paid for their items yet, there is nothing wrong with taking something from their trolley. But could you live with yourself?

Fair point but you won't win. Supermarket fun #1. Somebody upsets you for whatever reason, put random products in their trolley when they aren't looking. #2. At aisle one say in a loud voice "I hear there's a bread/sugar/toilet roll shortage" then see how many people have panic bought at the checkout.

There is no rules, but morally you should leave well alone, she got there first, and in this scenario you wouldnt know why she had all those loafs, they must be important if she had to take all of them, they could be for a homeless shelter and they need the bread much more than you do. The right thing and the easiest thing would be to ask a member of staff for some more!

Hello Puffin,
Morally I don't think you should just up and pinch it. There may be a very good reason for her buying so many loaves. birthday party in an orphanage, feeding the homeless at a shelter, etc.
I feel it would be better to ask her if she would consider letting you have one loaf as the supermarket does not have any left.
If she refuses, then accept it. Hopefully the shop or supermarket across the road will still have some.
If all else fails try to borrow some from a neighbour or friend.
Although strictly speaking she has not yet bought the bread, she has shown her intention to buy by placing the loaves in her trolley.
If she refuses and tells you she is just buying them to store or whatever, just put it down that she is a thoughtless and selfish person with no thought for others and feel proud that you are not like that.

I would take the bread. I have even had my trolley pinched (there was nothing in it - apart from a pound coin to get the trolley out) but it was still my pound they stole!
