It can be sometimes although it depends on what kind of items you are after. Two for the price of three is a gimmick, and i do prefer buy one get one free or bogof.

I expect that there will always be someone who will fall for a con like that! Most people shopping would read it as 3 for the price of 2 and never bother to check the receipt, just paying up.

Of course, it could be a genuine mistake in labelling by the shopkeeper and they did mean 3.4.2.
