My mum and dad bought a pair of bristle nose catfish, the person at the shop said dont be suprised if they have babies and if they do we'll buy them back if you want. well they have had babies. loads of them! How much roughtly would they pay for each fish? My mum and dad paid £30 for the pair. I know it'll be nowhere near that amount but wondered if anyone knows.
I guess they will ask the shop, they will buy them back. if u read the question properly u will see that they said they would buy them back.

hey thats pretty sweet that u have a breeding pair of bristlenose cats! Congrats. If you paid 30 for the pair, figure 15 each for an adult....I would say 3-4 each for the babies. just a guess though.

Why are you asking that here? Wouldn't you get better info by contacting the aquarium shop?

You won't get much from a store, if anything. They tend to have suppliers which will sell them in bulk for pretty cheap, and they also tend to have agreements with suppliers that they will not buy from hobby breeders like yourself, so you may very well find yourself turned down. You'll certainly get more if you sell them yourself through various fish and classifieds sites.
How much you can get depends on what size you are willing to grow them out to before you sell them - the bigger they are, the more they're worth.

It depends on the shop. You could call other shops and see what they are willing to offer. Each area has different fish they sell well or poorly so it'd be hard to get a set price.

Dont know what state your from but my friend just sold his 8 1/2 inch bristle nose catfish to a good sized shop in san jose california and he got 20 bucks for it. So im guessing for babies your looking at 5 bucks or less each. Your parents might get more if they post them on craigs list and sell them that way. Bristle nose are common and no to hard to get a hold of maybe sell them in bulk to the pet store as like a package deal would take less effort that way.

If there is an Aquarium Society,or Fish Club in your area, they might be approached to establish a price. Our club finds that these fish are quite popular at our auctions.

Most pet shops will take them off you. The bigger they are the more you will get per fish. If you sell the job lot you will get less than selling say six at a time to smaller pet shops.
Take stock such as fish food rather than money. You pay twice as much as what they buy it in for and you have to buy fish food. Sweetens the pot for both parties.
With Bristle nose, set yourself a target of say £1/inch and barter for the 600g of King British catfish pellets, (rrp £15, so ten one inch fish and you both make a profit?
Catfish always sell, so within reason you control the market and don't necessarily sell everything to one shop.

small fish are much cheaper than lerge fish even if they are older, also only take them back when they are big enough the shops dont want fry. depends how much you call "loads" i would take a guess at £20 if they are still tiny.

Rather than actually selling them, barter for goods, books, food etc., generally most shops will allow about 1/3 of the price they will be selling them for, in goods., take the young to a couple of shops, rather than only one, if you can.
