I start going shopping when I know what people want which is usually around early-mid November. Right around now.
I send out an email to everyone who I plan on getting gifts for and ask them what they want and pick out a few things for each person and start buying the following weekend.
I also like to go to the stores that often have sales so I get more but it is cheaper (a bit).

I start in August making lists of who and what I think they would like. The key is to stick to it and not stray or you will spend way more when you find something cute later on. I love internet shopping. You can do price checks and find the best deal w/o leaving your home. And if you are not wanting to pay shipping look for websites of stores in your area like Target or Walmart and do some comparissons that way.

Through out the year. Christmas leaves me broke so I've no money to spend on the sales. Poor me!!!
